– today is the ‘Ushi-no-Hi’
[丑の日:day of the ox in midsummer]
– there is the annual practice today
– that we eat charcoal broiled eels
– in order to put hair on a person’s chest
– substantial eels will be killed simply for the custom
– and the nice smell exhales from every eel restaurant
– all over Japan
– and at Gokuraku-Ji Temple, Kamakura
– the incense smoke aspires sky-high
– and monks who has no hair
– read the sutra alound in front of the altar today, too
